Be curious.
Be precise.
The packet contains the evidence you need. Recognition cannot replace a defensible reading.
Five stages, one theory.
Observe the packet, record when/where/what, judge six claims, reconstruct the sequence or special task, and review your submission. Use every exhibit and the curator’s context. Readable source text is available without a hint penalty.
Evidence status matters.
Supported claims follow from the packet. Contradicted claims conflict with a supplied record. Not-established claims need evidence that has not been supplied. An unknown is not a falsehood. Cite the source behind each judgment.
How scoring works.
Findings earn up to 1,000 points each. Correct claim judgments earn 200, plus 50 for a matching citation. Confidence earns up to 100 virtual points per finding and can lose points for confidently wrong answers. Date, map, chronology and special tasks each offer 400 when present. A reconciled theory offers 200. Each case shows its maximum.
Date windows earn overlap credit relative to their combined span. Map pins earn distance-based credit. Timelines count correctly ordered pairs. Hint tiers cost 100, 250 and 450, recorded on the server for checked attempts. Prose notes are private and ungraded.
Daily, practice and challenges.
A new daily opens at 00:00 UTC. The first submission per anonymous profile is final; revealing it first removes daily eligibility for that profile. Practice can be replayed. A 15-minute practice target does not affect daily scores. Friend challenges compare first attempts on the same case revision. Anonymous profiles do not prove one human or prevent all cheating.
Progress and accessibility.
Progress belongs to each case revision: a correction does not reset unrelated cases. Earlier prototype results stay in your notebook. Streaks count consecutive UTC dates with any completion. Scratchpads and bookmarks stay local; download them before switching devices. A recovery key restores server results.
Use Tab for controls, 1–6 for finding options, and left/right arrows to change stages outside an input. Timeline arrows and coordinate inputs replace dragging and map clicking. Reading preferences include text size, contrast, spacing and equivalent nonvisual evidence.
